Managing Principal & Practice Leader

Position Overview

The Managing Principal & Practice Lead will drive the growth and success of our IT advisory and assurance practice, all while working directly with a small cluster of clients as a trusted adviser and consulting CIO. The ideal candidate will be a strong consultant, capable senior IT Director and an experienced practice leader with proven success overseeing technology-related programs and projects within the mid-sized market.

As a new offering to the market, this role offers a unique opportunity to define and direct both internal and client-side business operations. You will be responsible for the development, growth and quality execution of our IT Directorship capabilities ensuring the continuous creation of business value.

Our principals combine deep, domain experience in three or more of the five service areas with proven client, people, engagement delivery and business development skills.

Position Responsibilities

The role will be accountable for core practice-related activities including:

  • Practice Productivity: Drive overall growth and economic performance of the practice through a combination of strategic planning, KPI monitoring, P&L management, and resource optimization.

  • Engagement Management: Manage new client intake, practice risk, project/program economics including planning and budgeting, sales pipeline, defining deliverable content, and ensuring buy-in of proposed solutions by our client’s engagement stakeholders and sponsors.

  • Management Consulting: Provide expert-level business analysis, solution architecture, governance review, and presentation of client facing and internal work products.

  • Practice Management:

    • Personal billable utilization target of up to 50%

    • Direct revenue responsibility of $2-3+M

    • Manage team of 8-12+ consultants

  • Team & Individual Development: Cultivate a healthy, results-driven culture through effective professional development planning and skills training, aligned to practice business objectives.

  • Leadership Development: Associate mentoring, compensation adjustments and growth

  • Business Development: Lead business development activities such as speaking engagements, seminars, thought leadership and strategic alliance relationship management.

  • Ensure executive stakeholders are kept informed about practice performance

  • Serving as subject matter expert and demonstrate mastery in leading/overseeing projects within the domain of IT

  • Sharing IT expertise with team members through development and delivery of case studies, white papers, learning materials, and other resources to elevate internal knowledge of solutions

  • Identify opportunities for growth/maturation of IT offerings, and set the direction for that growth

  • Maintain awareness of industry best practices and business levers for IT offering(s) and understands how the different IT Directorship practice areas interact

  • IT Strategy and Planning including Road-map development

  • IT Operations support, guidance and leadership

  • Process and program framework development and refinement

  • Develop solutions to deliver pertinent answers to our clients’ challenges

  • Deliver quality services.  Value and model excellent client service by establishing goals and implementation plans to achieve high-quality deliverables within expected time frames and on budget

  • Develop people.  Provide constructive on-the-job feedback/training.  Foster an innovative and team-oriented work environment.

Position Requirements

Mandatory experience & skills

  • At least 15 years of industry experience in a consulting and senior-level role within a mid-sized technology / professional services environment.

  • 2-3 years of experience in project / program management or governance capacity

  • Ability to provide documented prior success in the role of lead consultant on large-scale projects

  • Undergraduate studies in computer science, business or related field. Graduate studies in business highly desirable.

  • MBA, CMC, ITIL, TOGAF, PMP certification is a plus

  • Experience working across mid-sized to emerging growth companies (SMB)

  • Excellent presentation, communication and written skills

  • Excellent report writing and documentation skills and ability to interpret data

  • Highly-developed technology exposure across a broad range of products and solutions

  • Excellent client liaison and presales skills for business and technology solutions

  • Comfortable with marketing exposure, such as leading local user groups, internal training seminars, writing thought leadership articles to be published, etc.

  • Proven leadership ability and can articulate ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences

  • A passion for coaching and mentoring

 Desirable skills

  • Experience with ERP, SharePoint, or other database and business intelligence solutions

  • Domain knowledge within the Mining, Hospitality, Finance & other industries
